Air filters have arrows printed on the sides of them that show you which way they are supposed to be installed.

Dumb question, i replaced my cabin air filter (oem) and the arrow points up saying to install that way but on youtube a lot of guys are saying that's incorrect and arrow should be pointing down.so the outside air intake is above the airfilter box and the air pulls downward toward the blower motor fan. First check again as nearly all filters do have it, likely in the corner of one of the sides. I have a airfilter and arrow is pointing down for airflow which way should i put it in for a ceiling. Or use a small string.
